Greater Whitsunday Plastic Recycling Feasibility Report

The ability to recover and recycle plastics in the Greater Whitsunday region is limited. There are currently no local processors so the region has to pay significant transportation costs in order to achieve a reduced outcome.

The Whitsunday Regional Council has partnered with RM Consulting Group to create a report outlining possible solutions to help reduce the amount of plastic sent to landfill in the Greater Whitsunday region. Multiple stakeholders were interviewed throughout the writing of the report including 6 regional councils (Whitsunday, Burdekin, Rockhampton, Isaac, Townsville, and Mackay) as well as multiple businesses in the waste management and mining sectors.

RDA GW applauds the Whitsunday Regional Council for spearheading the development of the report and we look forward to seeing how we may use the insights gained to improve plastic recycling in our region in the future!
